The "Gates of Hell" scripture of Saint Matthew 16:18 is not about the Papacy possibly falling vacant by heresy ...

One of the most well known scriptures in the Catholic authored Bible is Saint Matthew 16:18. The scripture talks about Christ founding the Church on Saint Peter and that the gates of Hell will not prevail against the Catholic Church. In way of review the scripture is:

This Section addresses the following points:
2. The fact that the phrase "Gates of Hell" is not about the Office of the Papacy possibly falling empty because of heresy.
3. The last word of this scripture, "it", refers to the Church not to the Office of the Papacy. 4. The illicit and sinful use of this scripture by the automatically excommunicated Vatican-2-ists to justify remaining in the Vatican-2 cult which was founded in 1965 at the Vatican. ~ ~ ~
In these times, with the Vatican-2 jew-heretic cult systematically disseminating heresy against the Catholic Dogma and Sources of Dogma from inside what used to be our Catholic buildings ...
When the automatically excommunicated heretics dressed up like Catholic bishops are lighting menorahs until their fingers are burning off ...
... and in the face of this heresy, the Vatican-2-ists ... in running to the defense of the group leader of the Vatican-2 heretic cult, Joseph Ratzinger (a.k.a. "Benedict XV" -- who hasn't been in the Catholic Church for decades) ... and partly to cover-up for their own heresy and/or apostasy ... will invariably go into a fit and start calling out over and over again:
"But the gates of Hell will not prevail against the Church" is not about the Office of the Papacy possibly falling vacant because of heresy.
The Second Council of Constantinople (553 A.D.) ... a General worldwide council of the Pope in union with the bishops of the world ... dogmatically defined the phrase "Gates of Hell" as follows:

... and in the same sentence, the Council continues:
"And we count along with the devil, the father of lies, the uncontrolled tongues of heretics and their heretical writings, together with the heretics themselves who have persisted in their heresy even to death."
... that the "Gates of Hell" are the "death-dealing tongues of heretics."
The "Gates of Hell" phrase does not refer to the possibility that the Office of the Papacy may fall vacant ... the Papacy fell vacant in 1914 by heresy (see Section 20) and the Vatican-2 jew-heretic cult (founded in 1965) makes believe that they have the Office of the Papacy (which they don't since the Papacy is a Catholic office). See Sections 12 and 13 and their subsections of this site.
The Vatican-2-ists constantly misuse and misinterpret this scripture ... to try to make their (illogical) case that if anyone states the truth that Joseph Ratzinger has fallen into countless heresies over the last forty years ... then that person is stating that the "Gates of Hell" have prevailed against the Church.
They incredibly believe that if one person (in their minds Joseph Ratzinger) falls into heresy then the “Gates of Hell have prevailed against the Church” … even though there are people still in the Church by not having fallen into heresy and by not participating in a heretic cult (such as the vatican-2 heresy) … this is total self-deception on the part of the vatican-2-ists.
They also do not recognize the fact that when the heresy riddled documents of the "Vatican-2 council" were promulgated … any building which subscribed to the Vatican (and thus to the “council” of apostasy) after 8 December 1965 ... ceased being physical buildings of the Catholic Church, and became Vatican-2 heretic meeting halls of idol worship (of a non-Catholic “god”).
1. The Vatican-2-ists think that the group leader of the Vatican-2 cult is the Catholic Pope when he is just the group leader of one of many thousands of heretic groups in the world.
2. Only after being in the deception of #1 above ... then they wrongly equate (what they think is) the Office of the Papacy falling vacant with the "toppling" of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church cannot "be toppled" it can only increase and decrease in numbers (and gain or lose buildings) depending on how many people are baptized in water and believe the Catholic Dogma and Sources of Dogma.
The vatican-2-ists do these things in large part to cover for their own heresy against the Catholic Dogma ... as they attempt to employ the heretical Vatican-2 cult as a "cover story" (an excuse) for the fact that they themselves are heretics. The "I’m innocent plea" ... I was just believing what I was told by the vatican-2-ists ... will not work to get them into Heaven.
An integral part of this process of self-deception is using the Catholic writing of Matthew 16:18, that the gates of Hell will not prevail against the Catholic Church ... which the Vatican-2-ists are not even in.
They think that this excuse (making believe that the vatican-2 cult is the Catholic Church) will be the loophole that will keep them from Hell (it won't) ... as they oppose the Catholic Dogma and Sources of Dogma in their souls and as they physically participate in a non-Catholic cult. This is a 100% faulty assessment. It's all theological insanity because it is literally a break with reality.
Vatican-2-ists ... if you are talking to your automatically excommunicated Vatican-2 group leader (who is dressed like a Catholic priest) about the problems inside what used to be our Catholic buildings ... and if he, with the Vatican-2 smile on his face, replys: "But the gates of Hell will not prevail against the Church" ... there is a high probability that he is saying this specifically to keep you as a physical participant in the Vatican-2 cult which will cause your eternal damnation.
Vatican-2-ists: the Bible doesn't apply to you because it is a Catholic book and you are not in the Catholic Church.
If you abjure of your heresy and abjure of your physical participation in the Vatican-2 cult, followed by a Profession of Faith (see Section 19.1) the Holy Spirit will place you back into the Catholic Church.
After you are back in the Catholic Church ... only then will the Catholic authored Bible apply to you. But if you remain as a Vatican-2-ist, the Bible doesn't apply to you since it is a Catholic writing.
If you follow the Church commandment regarding abjuration then you can ... be assured that you are not going against Matthew 16:18 when you believe and state the truth that Joseph Ratzinger (a.k.a. "Benedict XVI") has committed more heresy by words and deeds than there is water going over Niagra Falls (see Sections 12, 12.4, 12.6, and 13).
Back to the subject at hand ...

What is the last word of this scripture - "it" - referring to in Matthew 16:18 ?
The word "it" is referring to the Catholic Church ... it is not referring to the Office of the Papacy, to Saint Peter, or to his successors in the Office of the Papacy.
To say that the word "it" refers to the Office of the Papacy is a complete grammatical mis-reading of this scripture.
If this scripture was referring to Saint Peter (or his successors) the scripture would read ... "and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against you".
This is an incredibly common misconception, in large measure because Christ was talking to Saint Peter when He made this statement ... about the Church.
So that ... if the Office of the Papacy falls vacant by heresy, then one cannot say that Matthew 16:18 is false because Matthew 16:18 is talking about the Church. This must be the case because if the Bishop of Rome falls into heresy it of course does not mean ... that the gates of Hell have prevailed against the Church since the Church consists of all those who are baptized in water and believe the Catholic Dogma and Sources of Dogma.
The fact that the Bishop of Rome may fall into heresy does not mean that the Catholic Church has been run off the face of the earth by the gates of Hell ... this would clearly be a preposterous conclusion.
The (still existing) Office to the Papacy fell vacant when anti-Christs usurped this office in 1914 at the death of Pope Pius X. See Sections 20, 20.1, and 20.2 for the heresies of anti-Popes "Benedict XV", "Pius XI", and "Pius XII". Following the fact that the Chair of Peter fell empty in 1914 is the fact that the Catholic Church lost its buildings to the Vatican-2 jew-heretic cult in 1965 at the close of the "Vatican-2 council" (see Sections 12 and 13 and subsections).
The Divinely established Office of the Papacy cannot be destroyed, it is temporarily empty at this time ... but there will be someone in the Chair of Peter again as is dogmatically defined at the Vatican Council of 1870, Session 4, Chapter 2. There is no human way to fill the Papacy because the College of Cardinals is extinct since their physical participation in the Vatican-2 heretic cult has caused their automatic excommunication.
God's time scale is not ours, keep in mind that the Israelites (they weren't jews) were in Egyptian captivity for 400 years. There needs to be an intervention from Heaven to fill the Papacy ... to help hasten the end of the spiritual captivity (heresy) that the Vatican-2 cult has place vast numbers of people into. In the same way that there was Divine intervention to free the Israelites (they weren't jews) from their captivity ... and other Divine interventions throughout the Catholic authored scriptures of the Old and New Testament.
Summary:
Vatican-2-ists, we want to provide you with this clear warning ... hiding behind the Catholic writing of Saint Matthew 16:18 (which doesn't apply to you anyway because the Bible is a Catholic book) will not save you from Hell ... it will not cover up for your own heresy against the Catholic Dogma or for your heretical physical participation in the Vatican-2 jew-heretic cult.
To be in the Catholic Church you must be baptized in water and believe the Catholic Dogma (Section 3 of this site) and Sources of Dogma that the Church has promulgated throughout the centuries. If you are physically participating in the Vatican-2 cult (or have in the past), or if you have fallen into heresy against any Catholic Dogma ... please proceed to Section 19.1 of this site and make the Formal Abjuration you see there before two witnesses followed by a Catholic Profession of Faith ... to re-enter the Catholic Church.
